Bidoli (Friuli Grave) Sauvignon Blanc 2010

This tipple surprises you even before you've uncorked the bottle. With a black tar like 'cork', it's like something from the future. When decanted, the colour is light and pale, but without that 'twinkle' that I like to see from a sharp white.

It's nose is one filled with the hit of gooseberry and peach hearts, giving the expectation of bite that I just love in a freshly poured glass. My expectations were met when I took in the first mouthful. With a soft sharpness which is heavy on grapefruit overtones, it leaves one with a finish that is a gorgeously sharp hint of summer gooseberry.

Overall, I must concede that this may not be to everyones taste as it is a very focused wine with a definite edge to it's flavour. If you're looking for something that doesn't bite, go for something softer. I personally loved it though, and would heartily recommend it to anyone looking to enjoy a citrus snifter at any time of the year.
